The Ottawa Senators have been a big hit on the ice and at the box office.
The Senators have already had a 25% increase in attendance this season, the organization is hopeful that number will be even higher by the end of the year at the Canadian Tire Centre and they’re expecting another strong crowd Saturday with the Seattle Kraken in town.Sign up to receive daily headline news from Ottawa Citizen, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
Dorion and Smith never promised the club would make the post-season, but along with Anthony LeBlanc, the club’s president of business operations, the organization stated it wanted to be play meaningful games in March and it would appear that’s going to be the case. The increase this season is the highest crowd count this organization has witnessed since the Senators averaged 15,829 people per-game during the 2017-18 campaign, a year after Ottawa advanced to the East final and then made the decision to go into a full rebuild.
This is the first time since the 2019-20 campaign business is back to normal and the club’s average attendance that season was only 12,618 per-game. That’s why this year can be considered such a marked improvement and will help the bottom line with the club for sale. There’s a good chance Saturday’s game against the Kraken will be full along with Montreal’s visits Jan. 28 and Feb. 11. Chris Neil’s jersey retirement night against the Chicago Blackhawks on Feb. 17 is trending in the right direction and that will also be the first time DeBrincat faces his former team.Article content
