The NRMA has found councils accrued a $1.9 billion funding backlog fixing their roads last year as early indications suggest that number will be 'blown out of the water' by this year's bill.
NSW roads have been lashed by record rainfalls and consistent flooding over the past two years which has left councils struggling to keep up with the demand for road repairs leaving many potholes across the state’s thoroughfares.
NSW councils racked up $1.9 billion in funding backlog for road repairs in 2021. Picture: John Appleyard Mr Khoury said only around 60 per cent of regional councils had filled in their backlog for this year and the number was already close to the $1.9 billion from the previous 12 months while Sydney councils were recording worse numbers compared to 2021.
Shadow Roads Minister John Graham questioned why Premier Dominic Perrottet had not acted sooner to help the local councils struggling to repair their roads.
