Australia is ranked 24 globally for retail sales in direct selling, according to the industry association Direct Selling Australia . Those at the top of the ‘level’ are the highest earners – those at the bottom earn the least. Salespeople are not employees, are not paid for their time and do not receive a salary. Importantly, MLMs are not pyramid schemes, which are illegal in Australia.Direct selling or direct network marketing involves a person purchasing items and selling them directly to clients, often without the need for a physical store.
Smith joined MLM companies Amway, selling nutrition products, and Jeunesse Beautycare in 2011. In 2013 he added a third company to that list, World Ventures, promoting discount holidays and getaways. “When you’re in your early 20s you feel like you’re the most motivated you’ve ever been, and you’re saying yes to almost every opportunity, especially if you’re in that self-help personal development world,” he said.
