Former Sergeant-At-Arms Major General Jose Balajadia Jr. passed away on Sunday, the Senate President has confirmed.
Balajadia died at 2:15 a.m., Senate President Tito Sotto told reporters. An initial report said Balajadia may have died from a heart attack, he added. Sotto said Balajadia, who resigned from his post only last June 30, suffered from"a number of ailments."Balajadia's nephew Bong Reyes also posted on Facebook, mourning the loss of his uncle.
The Sergeant-At-Arms is in charge of ensuring security and order in the Senate. Sotto said he will be asking the Senate to elect General Rene Samonte to replace Balajadia.
