Senate leaders are confident that former Senator Gregorio Honasan II will be able to do an excellent job in his new mandate in the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and fix the bugs of the free nationwide Wi-Fi program.
Honasan took his oath as the new DICT Secretary in Malacañang on Monday, just a day after his term as a lawmaker ended.
Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto also vouched for Honasan, who he called his “Senate classmate for 15 years.” Recto said he was particularly interested with how the new DICT chief will address the delay in the rollout of the Free Internet Access in Public Places Act .But as of June 2019, he said only 2,677 sites have been made operational, out of the targeted 34,236 sites by end of the year.
