The new mine is the re-creation and expansion of an older property and will allow Vale to access newer ore bodies beneath Copper Cliff
After almost 150 years since the discovery of nickel in Sudbury a new nickel mine is opening in Copper Cliff.
An official opening ceremony will be held Thursday for Sudbury's newest mining operation. It is called the Copper Cliff Complex South Mine Phase-1 and the grand opening will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday. The guest list includes Premier Doug Ford, Mines Minister George Pirie, Vale Base Metal executive vice president Deshnee Naidoo and Vale Canada's head of Ontario operations Gord Gilpin. The list also includes several Sudbury-based dignitaries.Along with the opening of the new mining operation, the event will feature the unveiling of a new mural.
