Football Australia is seriously considering putting a bid in to host the 2034 FIFA Men’s World Cup after the nation’s successful co-hosting of the Women’s tournament with New Zealand.
FIFA boss Gianni Infantino labelled this the “greatest Women’s World Cup ever” as it smashed the attendance record and returned record TV ratings demonstrating high-quality football has a huge place in Australia.
“I think when you host the best ever Women’s World Cup it starts to open doors so we’ll be looking very seriously at what our chances could look for in 2034.” “We need to bring more tournaments back here to Australia, right now we’re focused on finalising and completing the delivery of the best ever Women’s World Cup,” Mr Johnson said.
Mr Johnson also revealed the organisation was looking at hosting the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup which could see the likes of super clubs Manchester City and Real Madrid travel Down Under. Applications to host the 2034 World Cup are expected to be finalised in 2026 but Mr Johnson believes Mr Infantino will look favourably on Australia’s bid because of the success seen in the Women’s World Cup.
