It is said that music reflects the signs of the times.
Foantines DC Irish alternative rock band Fontaines DC have always been about the times whether it’s their teenage angst , their fourth album that will be released this coming August, is surprisingly titled…Perhaps taking a cue from the Beatles’ “All You Need Is Love”, Fontaines DC have opted to embrace a world on the brink of another World War with love; hence, romance.
“Our last one was focused on the London-Irish experience so this is different – a reaction to the world. How about instead of focusing on the negative, we look at the things we love and are positive about?”the title track kicks off the fourth album. It’s a surprising slow burn song considering Fontaines DC opened their debut album with heavy rockers such as “Big” from Dogrel, “I Don’t Belong” from A Hero’s Death, and “In ar gCroithe go deo” from Skinty Fia.
“This record is about deciding what’s fantasy – the tangible world, or where you go in your mind. What represents reality more? That feels almost spiritual for us,” added guitarist Carlos O’Connell.is the band’s fourth album in seven years and while love isn’t the only things these Irish lads have embraced, it is a love for shoegaze music and a prolificacy in making music.
Using their influences, the band spent a month writing material for the new album in London where they had relocated from their native Ireland.
