On Tuesday Yellowhead County issued a shelter in place alert for Peers, 177 km west of Edmonton, as rising water washed out a bridge.

Rain last week had been welcome since it allowed firefighters to make progress on the battle against massive wildfires that forced more than 8,000 residents of Edson and Yellowhead County to evacuate. The Yellowhead County website said the Peers Bridge has been compromised Tuesday but no additional details were given.
