Edson declares local state of emergency following severe rainfall

From wildfires to threat of flash flooding, the town of Edson, has declared a state of local emergency due to the severe rainfall

On Friday, officials said they were expecting rainfall which would offer significant reprieve, but it took a turn when Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a severe rainfall warning for northern Alberta. The warning has since lifted for Edmonton. But the flooding which has now struck Edson is stretching resources and officials are asking residents to remain patient.

On Monday morning, Environment Canada put out two highway alerts for the Banff and Jasper areas after up to 25 centimetres of snow was forecast for the day. Parks Canada reporting heavy wet snow and fallen trees on roadways in some areas.
