Stone inked another one-year deal Tuesday with the Calgary Flames — this time, a two-way pact with a salary-cap hit of US$750,000.

Now that he’s under contract, it would not be a surprise to see Stone in the home lineup for Thursday’s curtain-raiser against the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche. If that’s the case, you can count on a loud roar when he’s introduced during the pre-game festivities.

Stone was primarily a spare part last winter, suiting up for only 11 regular-season games and watching 71 more as a healthy scratch. He logged nine appearances in the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs. “Everybody wants to play so if I can keep doing what I’m doing and building my game, then I’ll look to be a regular. That’s the plan, for me anyway,” Stone said. “I’m willing to play whatever role it is that I’m asked to play. That doesn’t mean that I’m satisfied with that role — I want to always keep pushing to take on more — but I’m not going to complain or get down on myself because of any position I’ve been put in or put myself in, for that matter.
