Fixing the problems at DepEd

THERE are systemic gaps in the teaching and learning delivery in our schools, which have led to our students performing dismally in national and global assessments.President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was well aware of this, and so he directed the Department of Education in his State of the Nation Address last year “to fill in the gaps.” He noted global assessments that showed more than half of students in Grades 6, 10 and 12 barely reached the minimum proficiency levels.

She also did not finish constructing the classrooms in the last-mile schools, or the schools in the far-flung areas of the country, even if there was a budget allocated for them. And she fudged the implementation of the NLRP.Edcom 2 is a congressional body tasked to assess the country’s education ills and provide an RX for them. Their remit includes the DepEd, the Commission on Higher Education, and the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority.
