The Philippine National Police (PNP) vowed on May 16, Saturday, to continue to be on guard in implementing the quarantine rules even as it reported that the first day of transition to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine and General Community Quarantine went ahead smoothly and orderly.
“There was no major untoward incident reported,” said Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, PNP spokesman.
Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, commander of the Joint Task Force COVID Shield, said more policemen were deployed in malls which resumed the operation and other areas where the people are expected to converge. Eleazar said the policemen have been tasked to assist the security personnel of malls in the implementation of the basic protocols against the Corona Virus Disease like physical distancing and wearing of face masks.
Eleazar explained that the deployment of policemen especially near the mall entrances is part of the shift to intensified police visibility following the easing of the restrictions on home quarantine which allowed some business establishments, including some shops inside the malls, to open starting May 16.
