Greater Sudbury Fire Services launched Fire Prevention Week at Alain Girouard in Chelmsford earlier today

Declaring this to be Fire Prevention Week, local firefighters shared a handful of lifesaving tips with students at École Alliance St-Joseph this morning.

The theme to this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “Fire won’t wait, plan your escape,” which Oshell said firefighters will use to encourage people to come up with a plan in the event of a fire so everyone can quickly get out in the event of an emergency. Firefighters are hosting assemblies at a few schools throughout the municipality this week, which Oshell said they routline conduct regardless of Fire Prevention Week.

“We’re going to be working with our partners with smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, getting that messaging out into the public and ensuring they have the right tools in their homes they should have,” Oshell said, adding they plan on targeting stores that sell these devices so they can more easily push people in the right direction.
