A fire broke out at the Ember Hotel near Bangkok 's Khao San Road, a popular tourist destination, killing three foreign tourists and injuring several others. The fire erupted on the 5th floor of the six-story hotel on Sunday night. Seventy-five people were staying at the hotel at the time of the fire. One victim was found dead at the scene, while the other two died after being transported to the hospital. Seven people were injured, including two Thai nationals and five foreigners.
Sreekanth Kolamala, a 37-year-old Indian national who witnessed the rescue operation, said firefighters broke the glass to try to pull people out. Khao San Road is known for its lively nightlife and attracts many backpackers. The incident caused concern about a New Year's Eve countdown event planned for Tuesday night, but authorities assured the public that security measures would be enhanced.
