Award-winning songwriter David Foster emboldens Filipino singers to land a significant spot in the global music scene just like South Korean artists
Award-winning songwriter David Foster said Filipino singers deserve to shine in the international music scene just like the phenomenal South Korean artists.
"It’s just shocking that it hasn’t happened yet,” Foster told CNN Philippines' Rico Hizon on The Final Word on Thursday night. “Filipino people love music so much and they have such great training on it," said the 70-year-old Canadian legend, comparing Filipino performes to the South Korean pop stars that are taking the world by storm.
Praising the Filipinos’ huge appreciation for music, Foster recounted that Filipinos usually sing to every lyric of his songs whenever he visits the country for concerts -- a trait that he described as unique among music lovers across the globe. He also looked back at his collaboration with Filipino singer Charice Pempengco, now known as Jake Zyrus, whom he said should have been included in the Netflix documentary “David Foster: Off the Record.” The upcoming docu chronicled the musician’s career spanning almost five decades.
