The Philippine embassy and the DMW say in separate statements that the incident does not reflect the professionalism and caring nature of Filipino workers
MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Migrant Workers has begun to extend assistance to a Filipino domestic worker involved in the death of an employer’s child in Kuwait.“The DMW, through the Philippine embassy and Migrant Workers Office in Kuwait, is closely coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities while extending the necessary assistance to the subject domestic worker, with due regard to Kuwaiti laws and the DMW mandate,” the DMW said.
The report said the child’s parents came home hearing their child’s cries. The child, who was rushed to Jaber Hospital, died.The Philippine embassy and DMW both said the case was an isolated incident and did not reflect the character of Filipino workers. “We humbly provide the assurance that this tragic incident is isolated and does not represent the values of Filipinos and overseas Filipino workers who are known for their caring nature, professionalism, dedication and hard work,” the DMW said.Kuwait is among the most popular destinations among overseas Filipino workers, accounting for 6.5% of the distribution of OFWs in 2023, according to theMichelle Abad is a multimedia reporter at Rappler.
