MANILA, Philippines: The Philippine women's football team faltered in their bid to secure a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics after getting eliminated in the second round in the qualifying round.
The 3-0 victory of Uzbekistan against India in their Group C game formally closed the Olympic door for the Filipinas. The scenario was the Philippine side would have secured a place in the next round had India defeated or drawn with Uzbekistan.
It also included a draw between South Korea and China and a win or draw by Japan over Vietnam, which were both achieved. On Wednesday, the Philippine side defeated Iran 1-0 to finish off their campaign at the Olympic qualifiers, which are being held in Perth, Australia. The Filipinas finished the Olympic qualifying tournament with a 2-1 record, after losing to host Australia.
