The ability to play baseball might be something many take for granted but for youngsters and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities it’s a challenge.

However the “Field of Ability” located at Parkdale Memorial Park on Sidney Street in Belleville has leveled the playing field. Now in it’s second full season since its near million dollar construction, the “Field of Ability” is home to the Challenger Baseball Program which for years operated one night a week on the dirt diamond at Loyalist College. However that often made it hard for those in wheelchairs or using walkers to maneuver on.

Challenger Baseball co-ordinator Lisa Chesher says since moving to the fully rubberized surface, the program has exploded.Chesher says next year they will expand to four nights a week to accommodate everyone.https://media.socastsrm.com/wordpress/wp-content/blogs.dir/1977/files/2023/06/chesher-2.mp3On Tuesday night Challenger Baseball received a $5000 donation from the Children’s Foundation to support young players in the program.
