FIBA World Cup: June Mar 'playable' against Serbia after skipping practice FIBAWC
FOSHAN, China -- Gilas Pilipinas center June Mar Fajardo is expected to be ready for their FIBA World Cup game against Serbia on Monday night, after sitting out practice due to a slight sprain.
Fajardo limped off the floor with 2:23 left in the second quarter of the Philippines' game against Italy on Saturday, though he returned to action later in the contest. Gilas lost, 108-62, to drop to 0-1 in Group D. The reigning PBA Most Valuable Player was an observer as Gilas Pilipinas practiced for its game against powerhouse Serbia on Sunday night at Foshan International Sports and Cultural Center here."So we opted not to play him in practice today, but he should be OK by tomorrow," he added.
Gilas' physical therapist, coach Dax Aseron, said there was swelling in Fajardo's right ankle, but the team will "try our best to make him play."The Philippines need to win against Serbia to stay in the hunt for a spot in the second round of the tournament. Another loss will relegate them to the classification phase for the 17th to 32nd spots.
