This marks the third consecutive year Eala has been eliminated in the first round of Australian Open qualifying. Eala, aiming to become the first Filipina in a Grand Slam main draw, faced a tough opponent in Fett, who reached the second round of the French Open last year as a lucky loser.
Fett broke Eala three times in the first set, eventually clinching it after an hour and twelve minutes. Eala showed resilience by winning two consecutive games and saving three set points, but Fett regained control to win the set. The second set saw Fett dominate, opening a 4-0 lead before closing out the match. Eala recently achieved a career-high ranking of 138th after reaching the semifinals of the WTA 125 Workday Canberra International
