FileCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The provincial and federal governments have announced a $50-million cash injection to develop a new biomanufacturing centre in Charlottetown, marking the largest single investment in economic development infrastructure in P.E.I.'s history.
Announced Friday, Feb. 10, the new facility, a 75,000-square-foot biomanufacturing centre, will allow bioscience companies to conduct research, develop new products and provide access to biopharmaceutical manufacturing skills and training.Spearheaded by the P.E.I.
Rory Francis, CEO of the P.E.I. BioAlliance, said the centre will provide essential biomanufacturing facilities and services to businesses across the region. “Today’s announcement is an exceptional endorsement of the hard work and vision of leaders from our Cluster’s business, research, and government organizations and their commitment to sustainable economic growth,” said Francis.
Tenants in the centre will include early-stage companies, small and medium-sized enterprises from across Canada and international locations. It will also include the facilities and expertise of the National Research Council of Canada's atypical fermentation labs and the Canadian Alliance for Skills and Training in Life Sciences, which will serve as the national headquarters and expanded lead training facility.
