Premier Tim Houston speaks at the New Glasgow Town Hall where he announced more than $100,000 in funding for Pictou County Transit. - Adam MacInnisAs Central Nova MP Sean Fraser milled about with his daughter Molly before a funding announcement on Saturday, they stopped to admire the paintings in the New Glasgow council chambers.“This is the building we’re in right now,” he told her.

“Ridership is strong and growing. Finances are in the black and our bank balance is healthy,” said Stellarton Mayor Danny MacGillivray, who is also executive director of CHAD, the nonprofit that oversees Pictou County Transit. “Clients appreciate the service and expect it to stay. The Town of New Glasgow and the Town of Stellarton are well served by Pictou County Transit and expansion to other communities is a real possibility.

“This investment of almost $600,000 from the federal and provincial government will stabilize the existing service with a backup bus. We also will be adding a third bus to the fleet in hopes of providing some level of transit access to Trenton, Westville, the Town of Pictou, the County of Pictou and Pictou Landing First Nation,” MacGillivray said.

Funding for the Pictou County Transit Authority was announced on Feb. 11.
