Participants set to take part in the 42km Sydney Marathon are hoping to see the skies clear by Sunday after heavy smoke has shrouded the city during the first four days of the week.

The 17,000 runners have been urged to take extra care in the race especially those more susceptible to breathing difficulties in smoky conditions.
