TODAY'S EDITORIAL: FDI is working for PH — Let's keep it that way
A RECENT analysis of OECD data by the Hinrich Foundation, an Asia-based global trade advocacy, has offered some encouraging insights for the Philippines with respect to foreign direct investment .While there are great variations in the amounts and impact of FDI among the Asean countries, it appears that the Philippines is benefiting from FDI more than most of its peers in terms of job creation, labor equality and help in reducing the country's overall carbon footprint.
Slightly more than half of all of that, however, has gone to the Asean's richest member, Singapore, which is described as a sort of investment hub for the entire region. In comparative terms, the Philippines lands somewhere in the middle of the pack in terms of total FDI inflows, but makes better use of them in several key areas.
