Senator Grace Poe said the fate of the SIM Registration Law now rests on the collective wisdom of the magistrates of the Supreme Court (SC).
“We worked hard and fought for its passage to fend off scams and spams preying on our people, and sometimes causing them financial losses and endangering their safety,” Poe said.
In a 59-page petition filed by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines and several other individuals, the petitioners also sought the immediate issuance of a temporary restraining order and/or a writ of preliminary injunction enjoining the implementation of the law pending the resolution of the petition.Telecom company Globe meanwhile said on Tuesday said it is offering incentives to attract subscribers to register their SIMs with just a week left before the April 26 deadline.
The 2X Rewards promo aims to encourage new and existing Globe and TM prepaid subscribers to comply with Republic Act No. 11934 or the SIM Registration Act, which aims to curb fraud and other forms of cybercrime by establishing a registry of SIM users.
