ILOILO CITY — Preemptive evacuation has been ordered for families residing in 10 coastal barangay in this city due to strong winds and the high risk of extreme tidal events.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas on Sunday ordered the early evacuation of coastal villages in the City Proper, Molo and Arevalo districts.The villages include Boulevard, San Juan, Molo, Calumpang in Molo district; Sto. Nino Norte, Sto. Nino Sur, Calaparan in Arevalo district; Ortiz, General Hughes, Rizal Ibarra, and Maria Clara in the City Proper.The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said residents from these areas are often asked to evacuate during extreme weather conditions.
'Carina' is also expected to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat, bringing moderate to intense rainfall in some parts of the country until Wednesday.In a Viber message, Treñas said financial assistance will be provided to the affected families.The EO noted that the Public Order and Safety Management Office, Iloilo City Police Office and the Liga ng mga Barangay will assist in evacuating the residents to Baluarte Elementary School, and other identified evacuation centers.
