, opened its first branch in the Philippines on November 15, at The Podium in Mandaluyong. It was named after the founder’s hometown, Putian City, a coastal suburb in the province of Fujian in China. The now global chain began as a coffee shop on Kitchener Road in 2000, and has been awarded a One-Star Michelin since 2016.
Putien is a Singaporean restaurant that puts the spotlight on Putian food and ingredients. In Putian, a city in the eastern Fujian province of China, they use a lot of seaweed, abalone, and fruits such as pomelos, lychees, and longans in their everyday meals. Putian is also known for its Putian or Henghwa cuisine, a style of Fujianese cooking that uses a lot of fresh seafood that is easily available in the coastal city. With seasonal food festivals that take place when the ingredients are at their freshest, PUTIEN continues to serve only the freshest.
What’s so special about Fujian cuisine is that it’s lightly flavored, but what gives it its distinct taste is its use of various ingredients from the surrounding mountainside and sea. It also uses a lot of foraged spices and ingredients while maintaining a light and clean flavor.
