Guzman's failed escape, John Curtin's role in World War II, and the James Bulger case
Guzman fled through a tunnel with one of his henchmen and carjacked a taxi before driving away. But their escape came undone when they tried to switch vehicles by holding up a car driven by an elderly woman and her grandson, which they stole at gunpoint. Before they could take off, they realised the engine was smoking and the car wouldn't run. By then it was too late as they were surrounded by Mexican police and captured.
John Curtin, one of Australia's most famous prime ministers, was born in regional Victoria on January 8, 1885. Curtin became PM in 1941 when Australia was fighting Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan during World War II.
