THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration on Monday warned of much hotter temperatures and 'extreme danger' heat indexes until the second week of May .Aside from the warm and dry season, the soaring temperatures and heat indexes are being triggered by the weakening El Niño, weather specialist John Manalo said.He said at least 36 key areas including Metro Manila have experienced dangerous heat index, ranging from 42 degrees Celsius to 51 OC.

So far, the highest heat index was 53 OC in Iba-Zambales on April 28, which fell under extreme danger level, the Pagasa forecaster said.Manalo said that Metro Manila registered a record-breaking heat index last April 27, but did not elaborate on the exact figure.He said that the highest heat indexes would be this year especially in the National Capital Region.Heat index is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.
