There’s the prison yard scene where Hemsworth engages in a hand-to-hand combat while lit on fire, or the one where a helicopter lands on a moving train.
After all, the team made it a point to establish relatability wherever they could in a movie that features near-superhuman action sequences. This is executed in ways as grand as Tyler Rake’s character arch to something as minute as his manner of breathing. But it’s not just the actors who did all the heavy lifting for the movie. In what he considers as the film’s most difficult shot, Hargrave had to operate the camera while a helicopter was landing on a moving train.
“It’s a tough thing to do,” Hargrave confessed, “but I try to look at it as a fan of action movies myself. When I approach action, I think of what I, as a fan, would want to see and enjoy. Then, as a director, how can I do that in a way that’s interesting or has maybe not been done before?”
