BAGUIO CITY – A former congressman here, lawyer Nicasio “Nick” Aliping Jr., and three individuals have so far filed Certificates of Candidacy for the May elections in this city.
The others are congressional aspirant Owen Jacques Demoni, reelectionist Councilor Peter Fianza, and neophyte Norma Ferrer Benuyo for councilor. They filed their COCs on the first day on Tuesday, October 1.
It was an uneventful day on the second day, October 2, as no candidate filed their COCs. However, candidates are expected to flock on October 8, the last day of COC filing.He thanked residents for their support when he was elected as three-term city councilor and congressman in the 16th Congress. Aliping, who is seeking the support of former Baguio Rep. Mauricio Domogan, said he is not a member of any political party but he is open to having a party or being endorsing by a political party.Meanwhile, the filing of COCs in the region remain peaceful, the Police Regional Office-Cordillera said.
More than 2,700 policemen have been deployed to secure the filing of COCs in Commission on Elections offices in the region, said PRO-Cordillera chief Police Brig. Gen. David Peredo Jr. "Our law enforcement officers are ready to promote a fair and safe environment for all candidates, the public, and the community," he said.
