A former Olympian is tipped to take the Sunrise seat after Kochie announced he was stepping down from the breakfast program in two weeks, but a surprise presenter from a rival network could spoil the party by snatching the role from the show's regulars.
in two weeks to focus on his growing family and business ventures.
Sunrise host David Koch announced on Monday morning he is stepping down from the helm of the breakfast program after 21 years to focus on his family and business ventures. Picture: Channel 7 Shirvington also fills in for Koch on Fridays after the latter is understood to have negotiated a deal in his contract to reduce his five-day working week down to four.
The other close contender is Mark Beretta, 56, who is currently the show's sports presenter, and has been at the network since 1995. No plans have yet been revealed for what Brown will do at the network, but a Seven spokesperson earlier this year said he would start in the second half of 2023. The 40-year-old journalist was flown to London in 2021 for a rumoured $1 million interview with the Rolling In The Deep hitmaker which went south quickly.
Kochie's replacement will be a major decision for Seven's executives given the finance guru was a trusted face with viewers, and the daily ratings reflected that.
