An ex-convict is facing multiple murder charges after allegedly killing three people and injuring one in a shooting spree in Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City.

An ex-convict named Eduardo Ramos Taghoy Jr. is facing multiple murder charges following a shooting spree in Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, that resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to one other. Lieutenant Colonel Christian Torres, spokesperson for the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, confirmed that three counts of murder and one count of frustrated murder were filed against Taghoy at the city prosecutor’s office on Monday, January 20, 2025.

According to Torres, investigators recovered the weapon used in the crime, a .45 pistol. The pistol was still loaded with two bullets, but it jammed, preventing further discharge and potential harm. Taghoy will also face charges for violating the Commission on Elections’ gun ban, which took effect on January 12. Lieutenant Colonel Torres stated that while the drug test results are pending verification due to procedural requirements, Taghoy appeared to be in a state of psychological distress and violence during the incident. Witnesses reported a change in his behavior and incoherent speech prior to the shooting. The shooting occurred on January 17 around 8 p.m. in Maribago, where three individuals were fatally shot in the head. The victims were identified as Randyl Diaz Aying, a 48-year-old construction worker; Junrey Balmosena Jamora, a 26-year-old photographer; and Neann Aquino Ceño, a lending collector. A construction worker survived the attack after being shot in the jaw, but the bullet missed vital organs.
