A LARGE-SCALE syndicated estafa complaint was filed before the Department of Justice on Friday against Procap International, an online gambling platform.

Lawyer Mark Kristopher Tolentino, legal counsel of the complainants, said Procap allegedly scammed thousands of Filipinos for P42 billion using a fraudulent scheme disguised as a high-return online prediction game. Complainants claimed Procap promised huge daily earnings with minimal effort, adding participants were told they could earn between 6- to 42-percent monthly profit by making just one correct prediction per day.

The promise that they can withdraw their investment any time was proven untrue, they added. 'This is not just a financial crime — it's a national crisis. Families have been devastated. Livelihoods lost. And unless we act decisively, more will suffer,' Tolentino said. Authorities believe the fraudulent scheme extends far beyond Philippine borders, with similar cases reported in Hong Kong, Japan, Dubai, the United States, and Singapore.
