Enforcement officers among 9 arrested for migrant smuggling in Sabah
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and Immigration Department confirm five Sabah Immigration Department officers are among nine people who have been nabbed on suspicion of smuggling migrants into the country during an operation on Thursday. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, March 25, 2023.
It said the other four individuals – three men and a woman – aged between 37 and 43, and believed to be working as agents for Indonesian workers, were arrested between 3.30 and 6pm on the same day. Based on the MACC’s investigation, the syndicate, believed to have been operating since 2018, provides boarding passes to bring in between five and 20 illegal immigrants on each flight to KLIA.
