The maid wakes up late and rushes through her morning chores, says the employer

SINGAPORE: An employer took to social media asking if it was compulsory that she give her maid access to WiFi.

In an anonymous post to a support group for domestic helpers and employers alike, the woman said that when her maid was new, she allowed her to use the WiFi. But eight months into the job, the maid started meeting her friends on her days off, and her behaviour changed, the woman said. “She uses hp till 12.30 am.. she goes inside room at 10pm to use hp till past 12am. I take over at 10pm as I am studying and working. I will handle my kids once I am home. Morning she needs to wake up at 5.30am to prepare for cooking before I go to work n has to prepare for my kids school too”, the employer wrote.

She added that because the maid only sleeps after 12.30 am, she has been waking up late and rushing through her chores in the morning. Even though the employer advised the maid to finish her calls early and sleep on time as she needs to rest, she was not happy. The employer also wrote that while she thought her helper was talking to her husband and children, “she told us she has been talking to her agent friend till 12.30am”.

In the comments section, the employer clarified that the situation she described occurred only on school days. She added that her helper would wake up at 8 a.m on school holidays and weekends. The employer also said that she had already resolved the matter and spoken to her maid. /TISG
