[EDITORIAL] Post-Sara Duterte resignation: Ang trahedya at ang pag-asa sa edukasyon

Hindi na puwedeng ipagkatiwala ang DepEd sa taong walang alam tungkol sa public education system, walang lakas ng loob na tumaya sa pagbabago, at walang vision upang tahakin ang tamang landas

Malinaw naman kung bakit nagbitiw si Vice President Sara Duterte mula sa Department of Education. Kung tutuusin, wala nang gaanong strategic value pa para kay VP Sara na magtiis nang apat pang taon sa DepEd bilang kalihim nito mula nang binaril ng Kongreso ang confidential funds niya para sa ahensiya.

Ayon sa political analyst at Rappler columnist na si Antonio Montalvan II, nasa “backseat” daw ng utak ni Sara ang DepEd. Hindi daw niya nakuha ang gusto niyang posisyon sa Gabinete – and defense – kaya DepEd daw ang na-militarize niya. Nag-appoint si Sara ng mgasa sa ahensiyang wala namang kinalaman sa seguridad ang tungkulin. Nag-appoint din siya sa top-level positions ng political appointees.

Sabi ni Montalvan, “Plainly, simply, and palpably, Sara Duterte was not fit for the job.” Nag-appoint si Marcos ng incompetent na DepEd chief at ang buong bayan ang nagdusa. Nasa ICU ang edukasyon sa Pilipinas, at hindi na puwedeng sumablay si Marcos sa pagtatalaga ng taong malalim ang background sa edukasyon, makaka-navigate sa burukrasya nito, tatabas sa mga deadwood at korap dito, magmo-modernize sa pagtuturo, magpapagaan sa buhay ng mga guro, at makaka-address sa napakalalang kakapusan sa classrooms.
