WHILE billed as a group exhibition of painters, Art Anton Gallery’s upcoming presentation serves as a fashion show to its core, the runway cleared for avant-garde, impressionistic interpretations of the Filipiniana.
Visual artists Jane Ebarle, Edgar San Diego and Monie Domer headline the exhibition opening this Friday, April 5, at Art Anton Gallery in S Maison, Pasay City. The show, titled after the Tagalog word for the act of getting ready, “kagayakan”, will run until April 24.the theme, particularly the Filipiniana, but according to the respective styles of the artists,” said Ebarle,
the University of Santo Tomas, alongside Monie Domer, a young artist specializing in floral portraits of women. One of San Diego’s works shows a watermelon-inspired dress bearing the fruit on its feet, as it hangs from a grotto. In another, the subject stands on and becomes one with a corn farm, as chickens wander about.
Domer’s stylized depiction takes inspiration from her signature works on flowers and women. She brings out emotions in the dress by making it its own person, exuding elegance in striking poses.
