Guiuan, Eastern Samar registered extremely dangerous temperatures ranging from 53 to 55 degrees Celsius this week, latest highest heat index data of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration showed.
The coastal town in Eastern Visayas has been in the red zone since Sunday when it recorded a heat index forecast of 55°C. It will likely remain there over the next couple of days with a heat index of 53°C, based on the latest five-day computed and two-day forecast of PAGASA. The state weather bureau listed 36 areas under dangerous heat levels on Wednesday with temperatures between 42°C to 45°C, including NAIA Pasay City in Metro Manila and parts of Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, Cavite, Negros Oriental, Albay, Masbate, among other provinces.
Forecast for Thursday is almost the same with 42 areas listed in the orange zone. Heat index measures air temperature combined with relative humidity to determine how hot it would feel for a human body. Meanwhile, PAGASA said Typhoon ‘Aghon’ maintained its strength while accelerating northeastward as it exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility. As of 5:00 AM on Wednesday, it was monitored at 870 kilometers East Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon.
