Eala targets repeat over Ostapenko, Eastbourne Open QF berth
MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala eyes a repeat win over Latvian Jelena Ostapenko in their round of 16 match, as she targets an Eastbourne Open quarterfinals berth in England on Wednesday evening .Barring any delay, the rematch between world no. 74 Eala and no. 20 Ostapenko is set at 9:30 p.m. Eala previously battled Ostapenko at the Miami Open last March when she stunned the former French Open titlist in the round of 64, 7-6 , 7-5.
Eala eventually reached the semifinals, making history as the first Filipino netter to reach that deep in the tournament on top of defeating three Grand Slam champs in one single run.The 20-year-old Eala got past Turkish Zeynep Sönmez and American Hailey Baptiste in the qualifiers to reach the Eastbourne Open main draw.In the round of 32, Eala dominated Lucia Bronzetti of Italy, 6-0, 6-1, on Monday evening to advance.
