Filipino tennis players Alex Eala and Francis Alcantara defeated Luksika Kumkhum and Maximus Jones of Thailand, 6-4, 6-4, to reach the semifinals in the 19th Asian Games mixed doubles event in Hangzhou, China on Thursday, September 28.
Winning the match in one hour and 19 minutes at the HOC Tennis Centre C2, Eala and Alcantara advanced to the final four and assured themselves of at least a bronze medal in the competition.
Eala and Alcantara's victory also handed the Philippines its second tennis medal in the ongoing games, following a 17-year drought.Eala notched a bronze medal earlier after bowing to Chinese Zheng Qinwen in the women's singles semis event, 1-6, 7-6, 3-6.Before Eala, the last Filipino netter to medal in the Asian Games before Eala was Cecil Mamiit who snared a bronze in the men's singles event back in 2006 in Doha.
