President Rodrigo Duterte will be discussing with some Cabinet members on Sunday, August 2, the request by several groups of frontliners and health care workers to reimpose a stricter lockdown in Metro Manila and surrounding areas.
and in a message sent to reporters, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the President"will meet with key cabinet members today to discuss yesterday’s letter from the frontliners."On Saturday, August 1, at least 80 medical groups signed a letter to Duterte, asking for a two-week enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and Mimaropa. This is to help overcome what they called the country's"losing battle" against COVID-19.
The letter was written by Dr Mario Panaligan, president of the Philippine College of Physicians, and sent through Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr, chief implementer of the government’s national policy on the pandemic.
