Duterte seeks Asean cooperation vs Covid
President Rodrigo Duterte has called for greater cooperation among the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations to combat an “unfolding catastrophe” brought about by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
These areas were the production of medical supplies and medicines, ensuring sufficient rice and other food supply; support for vaccine research and development; and establishment of early warning system for pandemics in the region. Duterte said the healthcare systems were already “under increasing stress” amid surging cases of infections.
Duterte also stressed the need to support research and development for the coronavirus vaccine and hasten cooperation with its dialogue partners.
