Palace: Duterte to consider appeal of businessmen to veto Security of Tenure bill

Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo stated this after business groups said the bill goes against the constitutional rights of businesses to contract labor as part of their management prerogative.

The measure – Senate Bill No. 1826 or the Security of Tenure and End of ‘Endo’ Act of 2019 –will lapse into law on July 27 should Duterte fail to sign or veto it. The President had earlier certified the bill as urgent. President Duterte has promised to put an end to contractualization. But he said that a mere Executive Order is not enough and Congress needs to pass a law for job security.
