Following a fundraising campaign, Durham College is helping send medical kits and resources to conflict zones in Ukraine.
“Leveraging state-of-the-art technology in its Rotary Global Classroom, Durham College is leading the way internationally through its collaboration with the Global Guardian Project, a local grassroots initiative delivering life-saving supplies, training and resources to active conflict zones in Ukraine,” noted officials.Representatives of the Global Guardian Project had about two skids worth of supplies when they departed for Ukraine later that week.
The supplies include 18 Chromebook tablets, earmarked for the Kharkiv Children’s Orphanage. The aim is for children to use the tablets to access a free, web-based literacy program led by the Rotary Club of Scarborough. The college’s Rotary Global Classroom has also recorded twotraining sessions. The program offers training on how to deal with bleeding in the instance of traumatic injury.
The global classroom is a facility that connects students across the world in real-time to discuss various topics and issues. College officials say they plan to offer more training and literacy classes through it.
