The Municipality of Dumanjug in southwestern Cebu has enacted an ordinance regulating the entry and transport of livestock through the town. The Provincial Board approved the municipal ordinance on Nov. 25, following its initial passage by the Municipality on Nov. 8. The ordinance, authored by Councilor Isaac Cambalon, aims to address illegal smuggling, generate revenue for the local government, and enhance biosecurity.
It includes transport fees and charges, as well as a systematic process for issuing shipping clearances for livestock and related cargoes, to ensure accountability, traceability, transparency, and compliance with health and safety standards. This measure responds to the recent discovery of undocumented hogs from Negros intercepted in Dumanjug, highlighting the need to curb illegal smuggling practices
