About P261,849 worth of uncertified products were disposed of by the Department of Trade and Industry Isabela Provincial Office in Brgy. Lullutan, City of Ilagan on Friday.
ISABELA — The destruction was the result of the DTI’s intensive monitoring and enforcement operations for the year.
Some of the products that were destroyed for having no mandatory certification markings as required by the Philippine National Standards included motorcycle inner tubes, lead-acid batteries, electric fans, electric kettles, and other household appliances. According to Consumer Protection Division Chief Elmer A. Agorto, the destruction of uncertified mandatory products is part of DTI’s mandate to promote product safety awareness and consumer protection in Isabela.
Agorto stressed the conduct of the disposal complied with DTI Department Administrative Order No. 20-50, s. 2020, which specifies that confiscated goods that endanger public safety must be destroyed. He noted the critical responsibility of consumers in assisting the DTI in identifying businesses that distribute these dangerous items so that appropriate action may be taken.
