The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday said it will launch an Emergency Cash for Work and Emergency Cash Transfer program to help oil spill-affected residents in Oriental Mindoro, Antique, and Palawan.
The DSWD would implement the program in collaboration with the local government units and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to provide temporary means of livelihood to affected fishermen and vendors.
“After five days ang DSWD naman ang magbabayad ng minumin wage sa lahat ng lumahok. Tatakbo yan for 15 days muna and then after 15 days kung sinabi ng DENR na kailangan i-extend, handa ang DSWD na i-extend naman iyon,” he said. Aside from Oriental Mindoro, the oil spill has now spread toward the provinces of Antique and Palawan.
Gatchalian added that he is also in communication with the local government unit of Palawan and plans to distribute cash assistance to the affected residents.
