PALO, Leyte — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 8 (Eastern Visayas) alerted the public to an alleged human trafficking scheme after the agency denied clearances for 12 students flying to Taiwan for a three-year scholarship program.
PALO, Leyte — The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 8 alerted the public to an alleged human trafficking scheme after the agency denied clearances for 12 students flying to Taiwan for a three-year scholarship program.DSWD FO8 Jonalyndie Chua said on Monday that students traveling outside the country for scholarships must provide an admission notice, a certificate of enrollment, and a student visa.
She added that students obtained MTA authorizations at the DSWD regional office, accompanied by their parents and immediate relatives.The families disclosed that the students would be supervised by a representative from the scholarship sponsor.'The minors are traveling abroad accompanied only by a foreign national who is not known to the minors,' Chua said.'We disapproved the 12 applications because they were not able to complete their documents,' she added.
